LaHave Highlands

LaHave Highlands is a planned community development located in the beautiful, pristine landscape and village of Upper Kingsburg, on the western side of the Kingsburg Peninsula. This place feels like the end of the earth, offering both a sense of community and great privacy, prospect and refuge.

The 12 properties in this development offer unparalleled views from the highest oceanfront topography on this coastline (over 300’ above the sea). Lots 1, 2 and 3 along the Upper Kingsburg Road have been sold. Lots 4 and 5 on the east hilltop, as well as lots 6 and 7 on the west hilltop enjoy dramatic views of Hirtle’s Beach to the south. Lots 9, 10, 11 and 12 are oceanfront lots on the high cliffs over Mosher’s Beach, which enjoy an unparalleled sunset view to the west over the LaHave Estuary and the LaHave Islands.

Hilltop Lot 8 enjoys a unique panoramic view of Hirtle’s Beach, the shobac campus below, Gaff Point, West Ironbound Island, the LaHave Estuary and Islands, and the open sea where the French explorer Samuel de Champlain made his first landfall in the new world here in 1604.

LaHave Highlands will be an integrated community, with all homes to be designed by internationally acclaimed architect Brian MacKay-Lyons, founder of MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects. Each home will be customized to the needs, and budgets of each owner through a collaborative design process. The result will therefore be both cohesive and varied. MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects

The Shobac village next door, built among the ruins of an ancient village, is a testament to the landscape stewardship of Brian and Marilyn MacKay-Lyons over several decades. Nearby Hirtle’s Beach, Mosher’s Beach, Seahorse Farm and Gaff Point are amenities that complete the context.

Lot pricing ranges from $125,000/acre to $225,000/acre for the remaining properties. The base road has been built by the developer. Power poles to the lot is provided by the developer along the north boundary, with underground power to the dwelling to be provided by the buyers. Septic and well are the responsibility of the buyers.

LAHAVE HIGHLANDS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ARCHITECTURAL POSSIBILITIES

The following are architectural precedents both from the local vernacular and MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects, within the community and elsewhere. These examples are not intended to be limiting but suggest possibilities, in combination with buyers own objectives. They range from modest homes to larger homes; from traditional forms to contemporary forms; and from wood to steel; from hilltop to cliff sites. MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects

THE SURROUNDING AREA

Rare southern exposure atop the summit of a commanding elevated hilltop. Spectacular ocean view lots overlooking Hirtles Beach, Shobac community, open Atlantic ocean, and Gaff Point. One of the highest points on the entire South Shore of Nova Scotia, with 180-degree panoramic water views that may well stretch, on a clear day, from Liverpool to the Aspotogan Peninsula. Gaff Point and West Ironbound are prominently featured as you look east towards the open ocean.

Kingsburg’s spectacular Hirtles Beach is a three and a half kilometre stretch of swimmable white sand beach. The Nature Trust maintains and protects Gaff Point, a hundred and fifty acre natural oasis with hiking trails, secret beach and towering cliff lookouts. Rose Bay’s General Store is five minutes away and the town of Lunenburg (Unesco World Heritage Site) is a short twenty-minute trip, as is the city of Bridgewater.
